This is a response to those in the Shalom group who pressured U2 use their music as a platform for their beliefs. Bono had wondered whether or not God needed salesmen, especially after seeing the state of evangelism and religious broadcasting in America- “holy men” stretching forth their hands out of the television, stealing money. U2 weren’t ashamed of their religious views, but weren’t “going to go around and flog it like second hand car salesmen.”
