7 DÍAS (7 DAYS), a terrific new Mexican film about a young man’s quest to bring world-renowned rock band U2 to his home town, debuts on DVD November 20, 2007, from Xenon Pictures.
7 DÍAS has been nominated for 5 Mexican Academy Awards and 11 Cinematographic Specialty Press Awards, and won 3 Silver Goddess (Mexican Cinema Journalists) Awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. 7 DÍAS is now riding the wave of enthusiasm for Mexican cinema that follows the 2006 Academy Awards. The 16 nominations of films and talent from Mexico, including Best Picture and Best Director and resulting in four wins, signify the broadest interest and acclaim for Mexican cinema to date. This is a high-water mark in the Mexican film industry’s century-old relationship with U.S. audiences.
…What can only be described as dreaming big, writer/director Fernando Kalife began shooting 7 DÍAS, a film with the indomitable U2 at the core of its story, in hopes that concert footage, music clearances, and approval from U2 could be obtained once the film entered post-production. However, with no real access to the band or any commitment from their representation, Fernando faced a serious conundrum after he finished shooting: “How do you make a film about U2 without U2?”
