The Irish superstars perform their latest single in Morocco as giant sheets fly above an ancient city!
U2 have released the music video for their latest single, “Magnificent,” which gives fans both a look inside the studio in Fez, Morocco, where they wrote their new album, No Line on the Horizon, and an exquisite, conceptual element: views of the ancient city covered in giant white sheets.
Director Alex Courtes, who also directed the first Horizon video for “Get On Your Boots,” captured Bono and the boys playing the song in their palatial studio setting, then spliced it with footage of the giant sheets eventually floating above the city itself as residents (and U2 themselves) stride around the streets of Fez. It’s certainly a magnificent visual for the band’s ode to love.

i like ANTONs MAGNIFICENT on LINEAR better, that this new one.
Stay with me on this, indulge me . Rock ,pop etc, in fact IMO all music is aspirational. Who could argue that post WW2 ´modern´ music is not the most accessible of all art?
Rock , soul, pop and so on originates from a desire to connect and respond to the circumstance within which people live at any given moment. Art baby yeah.
Lets forgo the history lesson, suffice to say the last 50 years have seen the birth and demise of an assortment of music ´styles´
I am convinced that it´s technology that will ensure this continues. Beethoven didn´t cut many white labels when he was alive right? But he did sell sheet music to the limited few that could afford. Those who had the means and access.
Technology has changed that.
It´s that very technology which increasingly allows wave after wave of ´new´ sounds to come to our attention.
Composers, bands, artists, whose reasons to work compels them …and its not a choice ( and that’s the point) will always be playing second fiddle to the dynamics and fundaments of technological evolution.
Marketing tries to convince us that their products are what´s relevant to us She´s even more seductive when scarcity is applied to the mix.
This is as hollow a prospect as the cack rants and platitudinal cv´s their protaganists pass on with regretable pandemic success…a curse on them and all their houses , Simon Cowel. But he is not the first …
My father once told me that all his rock and roll will one day be dead. I now understand what he meant.
Magnificent is yet another proud example of U2 at the apex of creativity. Don´t suppose their tunes have ever sold much in the way of cola or cars but I swear it´s put new skin over scars.

hey this is a very interesting article!
Glad you found it interesting KeHoeff. I will be at the Nou camp tomorrow night to see the boys again. x. i am appalled by the poor songs that seem to dominate the airwaves in these times. Thats the cack rants that an increasingly stupifyed and ignorant audience are cajoled into trading for the sounds of their soul
